Minister for Social Welfare Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy on Thursday (October 30) inspected submerged areas, damaged roads and rehabilitation centres in Prakasam district. He interacted with the district officials and the affected people to assess the aftermath of Cyclone Montha.

He visited the submerged ST Colony at Anantavaram village in Tanguturu mandal and and instructed the officials to resolve the problems of the residents. Later, he inspected Mallavarappadu-Karumanchi road, which was eroded due to flood in the same mandal. He directed the officials to repair the road as soon as possible.

The Minister also inspected the rehabilitation centres at Alakurapadu village in Tanguturu mandal and Cheruvukommupalem village in Ongole mandal. He inquired about the government-announced distribution of rice and other essential commodities to the people who had been displaced by the floods.

“The State government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that the victims fully recover from the effects of the cyclone and lead normal lives. The Chief Minister’s foresight and the alertness of district authorities effectively dealt with the cyclone,” he said.

The Minister along with Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao distributed essentials to the people in the cyclone-affected areas. Though there was no loss of life during the storm, the people living in low-lying areas were shifted to rehabilitation centres due to flooding. Necessary food and medical facilities have been provided at these centres.

The government has decided to provide essentials and financial assistance to the flood-affected. The people in these centres will be given 25 kg rice, 1 kg lentil, 1 kg onion, 1 kg sugar, 1 kg palm oil and 1 kg potatoes. The government will also provide compensation for damaged crops, he said.
