Severe Cyclone Montha Effect and Status LIVE News Updates: Heavy rain with gale lashed Vijayawada city on Wednesday morning. The impact of the cyclone resulted in a number of trees uprooted. Many roads were waterlogged after Cyclone Montha crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Narasapur in West Godavari district, south of Kakinada overnight, IMD said on Wednesday. After crossing the coast, the weather system moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during the past six hours to weaken into a cyclonic storm, India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin issued at 5 am today said.

Cyclone Montha makes landfall: Cyclone Montha on Tuesday made landfall off the coast of Andhra Pradesh, causing disruptions in the southern state. The impact was also felt in the neighbouring Odisha, where normal life was affected in at least 15 districts. The landfall process started around 7 pm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, adding that the weather system in the Bay of Bengal will cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada.

No major impact of Cyclone Montha in Odisha, says CM Majhi: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said Odisha escaped major damage from severe cyclonic storm Montha, which made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast around 7 pm, bringing relief to the state even as precautionary measures remained in force. Majhi, who reviewed the post-landfall situation at the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) control room here, said there were only reports of minor landslides and uprooting of trees in some areas.
