The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board began operating the gates at the Himayatsagar and Osmansagar reservoirs in wake of the effect of cyclonic storm Montha.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert forecast and predicted heavy rainfall in some districts.
The discharge from the reservoirs began late on Monday with a combined outflow of about 2000 cusecs. But the number of gates and the volume increased on Tuesday in view of the accumulation at the reservoirs.
By 12 noon, the combined discharge was at 2,700 cusecs.
As per the recordings noted at 8 p.m., as both the reservoirs were nearly brimming, an outflow of 2732 cusecs was maintained at Osmansagar with its six gates opened by two feet and four gates by three feet, and 3,963 cusecs was maintained at Himayatsagar with its four gates opened to three feet height.
The reservoirs were holding 3.782 tmc water as against 3.900 tmc and 2.787 tmc water as against the full capacity of 2.970 tmc, respectively.
