The Czech Football Association dismissed coach Ivan Hašek on Wednesday after a humiliating 2-1 defeat to the Faroe Islands in World Cup qualifying, and it remains unclear as to who will succeed Hašek.
Czech FA president David Trunda stated that an interim coach would be appointed to lead the team for the rest of the qualifying campaign. A foreign coach is then likely to be appointed on a permanent basis. Former Czech star Pavel Nedvěd has been tasked with compiling a list of potential candidates.

Sunday’s shocking loss to the Faroes, a territory with a population of 55,000, was the Czech team’s biggest defeat in qualifying for a major tournament since a 1-0 away loss to Luxembourg in the European Championship 30 years ago. Despite that loss, they still qualified for the finals in England.
The Czechs still have a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. They must defeat another underdog, Gibraltar, in their final match on Nov. 17 to secure second place in Group L and advance to the European playoffs in March.

Under Hašek, the Czechs were eliminated at the group stage of the 2024 European Championship but then won their group in the Nations League and advanced to the top-tier League A, which starts next September.
