Daltonganj: Thirty five people fell ill after attending a marriage feast in a village under Lesliganj police station limits of the district on Wednesday evening. A medical team has set up a medical camp at a govt school in Boheeta village while 20 beds have been kept on standby at the Lesliganj community health centre to tackle emergency cases, health officials said.Among those who fell ill are men, women and children. Within hours of having a meal of puri and bundiya, they began vomiting and complained of stomach cramps and motions. Those who ate large quantity of bundiya also showed severe symptoms of gastroenteritis.Palamu civil surgeon (CS) Dr Anil Kumar Sriwastwa on Thursday said, "On Thursday morning, I got a call about a diarrhoea outbreak at Boheeta village. A total of 35 people have shown symptoms of diarrhoea. A good number of them are children. Bottles of IV fluids, oral rehydration solution and anti-diarrhoeal medications have been rushed to the village without delay. All are responding well to the treatment. There is no cause for anxiety.
” Health officials suspected that the food served to the guests at the feast was contaminated.CS said the Medinirai Medical College was asked to remain vigilant and attend to referral cases from Boheeta village on priority.
