Daltonganj: A network involved in selling spurious edible oil of a popular brand was busted and 138 boxes, containing 1,776 litres, seized from a godown near Bairya Chowk late Wednesday night, police said.Sources also said the oil manufacturing company authorities noticed a sharp decline in sales. An internal probe indicated possible trade malpractice. Hence, they sought police assistance.Sadar SDPO Rajesh Yadav said, “Acting on a written complaint filed by the company’s legal agency, a case was registered with the Daltonganj town police against the wholesale dealer under provisions of the Trade Act, the Copyright Act and the BNS.”“Samples would be sent to the state food and drug testing laboratory in Ranchi for analysis. We are also investigating the retail outlets,” he added.Food safety personnel said a simple household check, called the ‘freeze test’ is helpful to understand the quality of the oil. If the oil solidifies in a refrigerator, it may indicate contamination or adulteration.
