Frenkie de Jong came in staunch defense of his teammate Lamine Yamal, slamming Dani Carvajal for engaging in a public confrontation with him despite being a national teammate.

As always with superstars, one poor performance from Lamine Yamal has not only become the talk of the town in Spain but also snowballed into a war of words and theories of re-evaluation of his talent.
Unfortunately for the 17-year-old prodigy, his rare bad day came in the biggest match of the La Liga season so far, the El Clásico against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. Madrid regularly double-marked him on the right, giving him hardly any one-on-one chances, while the teenager also looked way off-rhythm and his usually spectacular ideas, seemingly still dealing with recovery lapses of his nagging groin injury.
It also didn’t help that Yamal had angered Madrid fans and players with a cheeky pre-match dig, joking on a Kings League Twitch stream that Los Blancos “steal and complain." Madrid won 2-1, and Chaos erupted soon after as players from both teams clashed in a heated brawl, with Yamal the main target.
After the final whistle, defender Dani Carvajal confronted Yamal, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois shoved him, and Vinícius Júnior charged toward him before being held back by teammates.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong slammed Carvajal for his actions.
“If Carvajal wanted to speak to Lamine, he could do so in private," said De Jong. “If he thinks he shouldn’t do things like (the social media comments) he could call him. They’re teammates (with Spain), they know each other. Why do you have to make a scene on the pitch?"
Meanwhile, Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni said Yamal’s comments were not particularly upsetting.
“They’re just words, and there’s no bad intention. It motivates us a bit more, but if Lamine wants to talk, he can do so, there’s no problem," Tchouameni said. “When I was little, I remember the exchanges between Barca and Real players before matches, and we liked that. In the end, the match is played on the pitch."
Barcelona’s assistant coach, Marcus Sorg, filling in for the suspended Hansi Flick, said that Yamal was still learning how to ride the atmospheres in matches like this.
“It could be (that), probably a little bit, because he is also learning to deal with the crowd, the shouting and whistles from spectators," said Sorg. “It’s normal. Normally, he’s very motivated and plays well. Today it was not so easy for him."
