Danny Reagan is stepping into new territory and making new connections in the first teaser for Boston Blue, the upcoming spinoff of Blue Bloods. Released Thursday, September 4, the preview shows Donnie Wahlberg’s longtime NYPD officer adjusting to life in Boston and meeting Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, under tense circumstances.The clip features Reagan chasing a suspect before encountering Silver during what appears to be a historical reenactment. When the two detectives first cross paths, weapons are drawn. Silver questions why he is running from a crime scene, prompting Reagan to explain, “I was chasing the suspect, I’m Detective Daniel Reagan, NYPD. My shield is in my front chest pocket.” Silver then asks if he misspoke when referring to his badge, to which he replies, “Where I’m from, it’s a shield.
”The exchange sets the tone for the pair’s dynamic, which also includes quick nicknames: “Brooklyn” for Reagan and “Bean Town” for Silver.Set in Boston, the series follows Reagan as he takes on a role with the Boston Police Department. According to the official logline, Silver becomes his new partner and is introduced as the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. The story will explore themes of family legacy and modern policing, as the two uncover a web of secrets involving facial recognition technology, deep family ties, and a search for justice that links the Silver and Reagan families.
The cast includes Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Gloria Reuben, and Ernie Hudson. Bridget Moynahan will reprise her Blue Bloods role as Erin Reagan in a guest appearance during the premiere episode.Blue Bloods, which ran for 14 seasons on CBS from 2010 to 2024, followed the Reagan family of New York law enforcement officers. Wahlberg shared his enthusiasm for the spinoff earlier this year, writing on Instagram: “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue.”
