The Kozhikode district secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has alleged that District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Praveenkumar is trying to justify and protect Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who has been accused of sexual misconduct.

In a release on Monday (August 25), the CPI(M) said that this was evident from Mr. Praveenkumar’s allegations against the party. “He should not portray the rising public sentiments against Shafi Parambil, Vadakara MP, who is the mentor of Mr. Mamkootathil, as the violent protests organised by the CPI(M). Mr. Praveenkumar should also not try to divert the people’s attention by alleging that the CPI(M) is trying to disrupt Congress events,” the release said.

People know very well that the CPI(M) has not taken any decision to stop events organised by the Congress. “Instead of saying that the Congress would handle CPI(M) protesters, Mr. Praveenkumar should try to address the ideological decay of his party,” the release added.
