Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul is on the verge of joining Inter Miami, where he would reunite with long-time national teammate Lionel Messi.

According to The Athletic, the 31-year-old has agreed to a four-year deal and is expected to arrive in Miami immediately, skipping Atlético Madrid’s preseason preparations.

The move reportedly took shape during the FIFA Club World Cup, marking a turning point in De Paul’s career as he shifts focus toward long-term development and the growing influence of Messi within the MLS.

While Atlético Madrid is seeking a fee of up to €15 million—well below De Paul’s current €25 million market value—both clubs are motivated to finalize the transfer swiftly.

Journalists Gastón Edul and Fabrizio Romano also confirmed on X that Inter Miami has submitted a formal bid, and De Paul is giving serious consideration to the offer.

De Paul’s arrival would significantly bolster Inter Miami’s midfield, already anchored by seasoned veterans Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. His addition not only enhances the club’s pursuit of MLS dominance but also positions Miami as a crucial environment for Messi’s preparation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

De Paul and Messi have forged a formidable partnership on the international stage, playing central roles in Argentina’s Copa América triumph in 2021 and their World Cup victory in Qatar in 2022.

Mascherano Responds to Transfer Rumors

Inter Miami head coach and former Argentina captain Javier Mascherano, a former teammate of both De Paul and Messi, was asked about the ongoing transfer speculation.

Mascherano neither confirmed nor denied the move but acknowledged De Paul’s quality.

“There’s nothing official about De Paul. I’ve also read what’s in the media. He’s a player at another team," Mascherano said, as reported by Marca.

“I don’t like talking about players who belong to other clubs. He’s a top-level player, a world champion with Argentina, who’s played in Europe for a long time. We always like good players, but I can’t say more, because I know absolutely nothing."
