Deadline for enrolment on voters’ list for local body polls ends on Tuesday

With the deadline to include names on the voters’ list for the local body elections set to end on Tuesday, the State Election Commission has received a little over 2.95 lakh applications.

Till 5 p.m. on Monday, the commission had received 2,95,875 applications for new enrolments. Malappuram leads in application numbers with 40,350 applications, followed by Ernakulam (34,352).

The deadline for filing applications for enrolment, making corrections or deletions on the voters’ list ends on Tuesday.

The commission had held one round of voter roll revision earlier this year, where it received 29.81 lakh applications for enrolment. The final list that was published on September 2 following that revision had 2,83,12,472 voters in all, including 1,49,59,242 women, 1,33,52,945 men and 276 transgender voters.

This list was published as the draft voters list for the current round of revision. The commission is planning to publish the final voters’ list on October 25.

The local body elections are expected to be held towards the end of November or early December this year.
