The semi-decomposed body of a 45-year-old woman, who worked as a professional dancer at weddings and fairs, was found concealed inside a bed box in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district.
Mamta Ahirwar was found dead at her residence in the Sahodra Rai ward on Sunday, after her semi-decomposed body was discovered concealed inside a bed box, police said.
The body was discovered by her children, who reached the home after being unable to contact their mother for nearly a week, news agency PTI reported.
The identity of the accused and the motive remain unknown, and local police have launched an investigation based on prima facie evidence found at the scene.
Mamta’s children, Dev and Muskan, had been staying with their elder sister in Vidisha for the past ten days while seeking employment with the help of their brother-in-law. According to their statements, they had not spoken to their mother since April 5, and her mobile phone had remained switched off throughout the week.
On returning home, they found the front door locked from the outside and broke it open with the help of neighbours. Once inside, they noticed a strong foul odour, prompting a search of the house. They eventually opened a bed box, where they found their mother’s partially decomposed body.
The victim, Mamta Ahirwar, was a widow for nearly 15 years.
Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Asthana said the case is being treated as a murder. An autopsy has been conducted, and a preliminary post-mortem report is expected by Monday evening, which may shed light on the exact cause and time of death. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining the locked condition of the house and the victim’s last known communications to reconstruct the sequence of events.
