Deepender Hooda demands urgent compensation and flood relief measures in Ambala

AMBALA: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda conducted an extensive tour of flood-affected areas in Saha, Ambala Cantonment, and Ambala City on Friday, urging the Haryana government to take immediate action to provide relief to the affected people.Hooda said that large parts of Haryana have been severely hit by floods, with roads, agricultural fields, and residential areas submerged due to poor drainage. He criticized the administration for failing to act swiftly, noting that a similar situation had occurred two years ago but no lessons were learned.“The government must begin drainage work on a war footing instead of simply opening compensation portals and shutting its doors on the public,” Hooda asserted.

He demanded that the government arrange for proper drainage, deploy sufficient pumps, motors, and electricity connections in waterlogged areas, and conduct a special girdawari (crop loss survey). Farmers should be compensated with at least Rs 50,000 per acre, while each affected household must be given relief based on a special survey, he added.Attacking the state government, Hooda alleged that in the last 11 years, the BJP had not built a single new drain or canal for water management, forcing lakhs of farmers and citizens to suffer.

“Every year, waterlogging worsens, damaging crops, homes, and public infrastructure. In villages, houses have been destroyed, while in towns, colonies and markets remain submerged in dirty water,” he said.Hooda also criticized the BJP government for failing to address broader issues in Haryana, such as unemployment, law-and-order challenges, poor sanitation, and broken roads. He accused the ruling party of manipulating the last Assembly elections in collusion with the Election Commission, alleging large-scale voter fraud and malpractice. “Congress will continue to fight for the people’s issues, both on the streets and in Parliament,” Hooda declared.Hooda was accompanied by Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary, Ambala City MLA Nirmal Singh and other party leaders.
