Dehradun auto driver beaten to death after collision with minor; one arrested

A minor road accident in Dehradun turned deadly when an auto driver, Maan Bahadur, was allegedly beaten to death by the family of a child he had accidentally hit. Though the collision caused no serious injuries to the boy, the enraged relatives pulled Bahadur out of his vehicle and thrashed him on the road.

CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows Bahadur struggling to stop his vehicle as the boy ran onto the road, triggering the assault that left him fatally injured.

Bahadur is survived by his wife and four children. The family has come under distress after his sudden demise.

Talking about the incident, Vidhi Gurung, the niece of the victim, said, “The accused family members of the boy first assaulted my uncle and later brought him home. His condition was bad as his face was badly swollen. It was evident that he was badly beaten by the family members.”

Adding further to her tally, Gurung noted that the family members spoke to the victim’s wife. They claimed that the minor boy was brutally injured and hospitalised. They further threatened the family with a court case and also asked for Rs 10,000 for the boy’s treatment. The victim’s wife arranged the money and gave it to the boy’s family.

The victim’s family registered a police complaint after the incident. Based on the complaint, the police started investigating the matter and arrested Gajendra Singh, the father of the boy and are looking for Mani Prince, the maternal uncle of the child.
