Heavy rain lashes capital; Air India says flight ops may be hit, IGI airport issues advisory

NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, on Tuesday morning, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe disruptions during peak-hour traffic. The downpour, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, left commuters stranded across major arterial roads, including stretches around Kartavya Path and Rafi Marg.Several low-lying areas reported severe waterlogging, affecting vehicular movement and public transport.

Air India issued an advisory early morning warning that gusty winds and rain could impact flight operations to and from Delhi. Commuters heading to the airport were advised to plan for possible delays.

Delhi airport also issued an advisory on Tuesday urging passengers to plan their travel with caution due to sudden weather changes in the city.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in New Delhi forecasted “generally cloudy sky with light rain at most places and moderate rain at isolated locations, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning.” The department also predicted an intense downpour over the next two hours, with rainfall likely to continue until August 3. Despite the intensity, no colour alert had been issued by the IMD as of the time of reporting. More showers are expected over the coming days, with authorities urging residents to stay alert and avoid waterlogged areas where possible.
