Delhi woman, fiance kill insurance agent who blackmailed her over marriage

A messy love triangle ended in a brutal killing, with a Delhi-based insurance agent strangled, his body dumped in a drain in neighbouring Faridabad, and the woman he was infatuated with behind bars.

Faridabad Police on Monday arrested Laxmi (29) and her fiance Keshav (26), for allegedly murdering Chander, an insurance agent from East Vinod Nagar in Delhi. According to police, Chander had been blackmailing Laxmi and threatening to ruin her upcoming marriage.

Chander’s body was discovered on Sunday morning in a drain, his motorcycle parked nearby. The grim find came after his brother, Madan Gopal, filed a missing person’s complaint.

Police said Chander had known Laxmi, a resident of Mithapur in southeast Delhi, for about five years. After she got engaged to Keshav, he allegedly began blackmailing her, pressuring her not to go through with the wedding.

Tired of the harassment, the couple allegedly plotted his murder.

“On October 25, Laxmi called Chander to Mithapur and took him on a motorcycle to a deserted spot near Atmadpur (in Faridabad), where Keshav and two of his friends strangled him with a rope and hit him on the head. They later dumped the body in a drain to destroy evidence,” said a Faridabad Police spokesperson.

Police said both Laxmi and Keshav confessed to the crime after questioning. Raids are underway to trace the two accomplices who remain on the run.
