Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa said that the demand for the inclusion of ‘Boudharudhyana’ in the State Anthem was under examination by the Department of Kannada and Culture.
Speaking to presspersons in Mysuru on Saturday, Dr. Mahadevappa acknowledged the receipt of a demand for the inclusion of ‘Boudharudhyana’ in the State Anthem, and added that the same was under examination by the Department of Kannada and Culture.
It may be mentioned here that the demand was one of the resolutions adopted at the ‘Bouddha Maha Sammelan’ held in Mysuru recently. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, and Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi were among the dignitaries who attended the event.
Former Mayor of Mysuru R. Purushotham, who chaired the Sammelan, said that the word ‘Boudharudhyana’ is present in the original composition of Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujathe composed by poet laureate Kuvempu, which was adopted as the State Anthem.
‘November revolution’
Dr. Mahadevappa dismissed the speculation over a ‘November revolution’ in the party.
“There is no such thing as November ‘kranti’ (revolution),” he said, while mentioning that Mr. Siddaramaiah will continue as the Chief Minister of the State.
With regard to Mr. Siddaramaiah’s reported statement that will continue as the Chief Minister for the full term if the Congress high command permits, Dr. Mahadevappa said that the high command decides every important things in the party.
On the proposed Cabinet reshuffle, Dr. Mahadevappa said that the party high command will have to take a decision, and added that there was nothing wrong in legislators aspiring to become Ministers in the proposed reshuffle.
When asked about the reported argument he had with Energy Minister K.J. Geroge in the Cabinet, Dr. Mahadevappa said that Cabinet meets were meant to hold discussions. “It was a healthy discussion... And a solution was found,” he said.
