Dengue cases triple in Patna in 10 days, urban areas most affected

The number of official dengue cases rose from 113 on Aug 25 to 354 by Sept 5

Patna: There has been a threefold increase in dengue cases in Patna over the past 10 days, official data showed on Friday. The number of official dengue cases rose from 113 on Aug 25 to 354 by Sept 5.Officials stated that nearly 90% of these cases are from the urban areas of the district.Patna civil surgeon Dr Avinash Kumar Singh said a total of 354 cases have been registered this monsoon, with 216 cases in Aug and 69 cases in first five days of September. “Bankipore circle has reported the maximum 111 cases so far, followed by Patliputa (92), New Capital (34), Azimabad (25) and Kankarbagh (17). Sporadic cases are also being reported from other parts of the district like Phulwarisharif.

No official death, however, has been reported.

While people are being admitted to hospitals, they are being discharged after treatment,” Dr Singh said, adding the administration is vigilant in terms of both testing as well as fogging. While local civic bodies are doing fogging in the urban areas, health department is doing it in rural areas, he said.He also said that 10,000 testing kits have been delivered to the govt health centres.

Health experts have warned people to remain cautious and take all necessary steps. Former superintendent of Patna Medical College and director at Mahavir Vaatsalya Aspatal, Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, said one should ensure there is no waterlogging in and around the house and properly cover their body.
