Tension prevailed at the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank’s Porathissey branch on Tuesday after a depositor poured petrol on a counter in protest over not receiving his money.

The protester, identified as Suresh Koothupalakkal, reportedly brought a bottle of petrol into the bank and poured it on the counter, alleging that despite repeated requests, his deposit amount had not been refunded.

According to reports, Mr. Koothupalakkal had submitted a withdrawal request on September 19. But the bank staff informed him that the amount had not been approved by the head office. Frustrated, he returned on Tuesday with petrol, demanding his money.

No one was injured in the incident, and no major damage was reported.

Following the protest, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Porathissery local committee staged a demonstration, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the incident. However, BJP leaders dismissed the allegation, stating that Mr. Koothupalakkal was not a party worker.
