Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday (June 22, 2025) lashed out at the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), terming party supremo Lalu Prasad ‘Gabbar’ of Bihar.
He defended Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the repeated attacks by Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and termed Mr. Kumar a ‘conscious’ leader.
Mr. Choudhary asserted that those in the Opposition looted Bihar during their term and the State was on the path of development under the leadership of Mr. Kumar.
Asked about claims made by the Leader of the Opposition that new industries had not been set up in Bihar under the NDA government, Mr. Choudhary said, “This sin is made by his father Lalu Prasad. He created panic and fear among businessmen and they migrated between 1990 and 2005.”
The Deputy Chief Minister further said, “Lalu Prasad ji is the lone villain of Bihar, he is ‘Gabbar’ of Bihar. Till the time he survives in Bihar politics, people would be afraid of his return to power.”
He listed the industries set up in Bihar, including bottling plants and ethanol plants. Mr. Choudhary appealed to the people of Bihar to give another chance to the NDA government to turn Bihar into an industrial hub.
Increase in pension
Reacting to the allegations of Mr. Yadav that the State government was copying his promises by increasing the pension to ₹1,100 per month from ₹400, Mr. Choudhary said, “The people of Bihar knows very well that during the tenure of Lalu ji, not even 12 lakh people used to get the pension and today more than 1.9 crore people are getting the pension directly into their bank accounts.”
He urged those who were left out of the list of social security schemes to fill the form to get the benefit.
Mr. Choudhary said, “At one hand there is a government of good governance and on the other, there are corrupt people. Be it father, mother, daughter and son, all are corrupt. The entire nation knows Lalu’s family very well. They have made record in corruption and looted Bihar.”
Defending Mr. Kumar, the BJP leader stressed that the Chief Minister was a conscious leader and understood each and every thing.
For the past several months, Mr. Yadav has been repeatedly alleging that Mr. Kumar is in an unconscious state and does not know what is happening around him. Mr. Choudhary alleged that during the tenure of Mr. Prasad, ransom used to be asked from the Chief Minister’s house.
Asked about Mr. Yadav’s claim that people close to the Chief Minister were blocking his son Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics, Mr. Choudhary said, “Only the family of Nitish Kumar can decide whether Nishant wants to enter into politics or not. The Lalu family cannot decide about anyone.”
RJD’s chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav slammed Mr. Choudhary over his remark on party supremo.
Shakti Singh attacked the BJP leader saying, “Everyone knows how he used to attack Nitish ji and today he is sitting in his lap. Lalu Prasad ji is a symbol of social justice who fought for the weaker sections of society throughout his life unlike BJP leaders.”
