Dev Diwali 2025: Significance
Dev Diwali is one of the most significant Hindu festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy.
The day is celebrated on Kartik Purnima and mainly celebrated in Varanasi (the city of Gods), Uttar Pradesh. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across the city. On this auspicious day, all the Ganga Ghats in Haridwar, Rishikesh, and other places are lit with thousands of Diyas and devotees visit these places to take a oly bath in Ganga river and also to celebrate this day with great grandeur.
Kartik Purnima holds a special spiritual significance and it is believed that people who worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva on this auspicious day, get blessed with immense happiness, prosperity and all the worldly pleasures. It is believed that on this auspicious day, all the Gods visit the Varanasi city to celebrate the triumph of Lord Shiva over the demon, Tripurasura. One of the main ritual of this festival is performing a deep daan.
The people who are unable to travel to Ganga ghats, visit their nearby temples and light diyas.
Dev Diwali 2025: Rituals and Traditions
1. Both Varanasi and Haridwar's ghats are completely lit with diyas. To honor the Goddess Ganga, millions of diyas are placed on side of Ganga River's in Varanasi, from Ravidas Ghat to Raj Ghat.2. People decorate the place by using rangolis and lamps to adorn their home.3. Along with drums and dhols, processions of deities are performed in Varanasi's streets.4. On this auspicious day, devotees observe Kartik Snan by taking a holy dip in the Ganga river.5. They will light earthen lamps to honor Goddess Ganga and perform deep daan in the evening.6. Devotees travel from all over the world to city of the deities, Varanasi to witness the lakhs of lamps that illuminate the ghats and float in the river. 7. One of the most significant rituals that carried out on this auspicious day is Ganga Aarti. Twenty-one Brahmin pandits and twenty-four young women execute the special aarti.8. Dev Diwali is celebrated with tremendous pomp and show and with the highest dedication by blowing conch shells, chanting mantras, and banging drums during Ganga Aarti and after aati, devotees chant Har Har Mahadev in a loud voice.
