In Hinduism, Dev Uthani Ekadashi is extremely significant.

According to Hindu scripture, Lord Vishnu spent four months sleeping in the milky ocean (Ksheer Sagar) and after the period of four months, he comes out on this auspicious day. The four-months period referred to as Chaturmaas. All the auspicious acts are forbidden and deemed unlucky during this time of chatrmaas. Dev Uthani Ekadashi is the day, when Lord Vishnu, the preserver of this universe, awakens, marks the conclusion of the four-month period.

People celebrate this day with great zeal and happiness. All auspicious events, including marriages, engagements, mundan, and griha pravesh, shall recommence on the day of Dev Uthani Ekadashi.Dev Uthani Ekadashi is also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi. According to the Skanda Purana, Lord Brahma first gave Sage Narada an explanation of the significance of Dev Uthani Ekadashi. People who observe fast on this auspicious day are able to obtain liberation (Moksha) and get rid of all the bad karmas they may have done in the past, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2025: Puja Rituals

1. Take a holy bath as soon as you wake up.2. Clean the house specially your puja room.3. Take wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Vishnu and Shri Yantra there. 4. Light a diya with desi ghee, decorate the idol with a garland, and present Tulsi Patra, panchamrit, fruits, and home made sweets.5. Women use Khadiya and Geru chalks to make Ekadashi during Gaudhooli.6. Offer sevaiyan, water chestnut, sugarcane, and dakshina and light a diya that should be lit with desi ghee and covered with sieve.7. In order to awaken and ask for the Lord's blessings, women sing bhajans, ring bells, and clap.8. This is how they try to wake up the Lord, remove the sieve from the diya, and pray to Lord Vishnu.9. People use diyas and lamps to illuminate their homes on this auspicious day.10. They distribute the offerings among the kids the next morning.
