UTTARAKHAND CHIEF Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Friday met Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi and urged him to develop airstrips in Chamoli and Uttarkashi to promote small aircraft operations.

The Chief Minister told the Union Minister about the state’s plan to resume helicopter services for the Char Dham Yatra after the monsoon season, calling them “extremely important for elderly, differently abled, and infirm pilgrims”.

Dhami informed Naidu that in the hill districts, air connectivity is not only necessary but critical from the perspective of tourism, civilian movement, and disaster management. He requested the development of the Gauchar (Chamoli) and Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi) airstrips for small aircraft operations and their connection with Delhi, Dehradun, and Hindon.

He said this would enhance facilities for the Char Dham Yatra and ease the supply of essential goods in mountainous areas.
