Telangana Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday assured the family of constable M. Pramod Kumar that the police department and the government would stand firmly by them.
Pramod Kumar, a CCS constable from Nizamabad, was recently killed while escorting the accused, Sheikh Riyaz, who allegedly murdered him while in custody.
The DGP, accompanied by Multi-Zone IG S. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Nizamabad Collector T. Vinay Krishna Reddy and other officials visited the constable’s residence in Nizamabad to console the bereaved family. He said he had come under the special instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and conveyed his condolences, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate. The DGP reiterated that the government had announced an exgratia of ₹1 crore, a 300-square yard housing plot, pension benefits and a government job for one family member. He added that the department would ensure all necessary support and assistance for the family.
Later, at the Nizamabad Commissionerate office, DGP Shivadhar Reddy, along with Nizamabad Rural MLA R. Bhoopathi Reddy and the district collector, distributed house plot documents to the families of nine police martyrs.
The DGP said that since 1989, 18 police personnel from the district had laid down their lives in the line of duty and that nine of their families were being allotted 300-square yard plots at Gannaram village in Indalwai mandal. He added that the remaining families would also be provided plots in the same area once they come forward, and thanked the district collector for his cooperation.
The DGP said that the government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accords utmost importance to the welfare of police martyrs’ families, recognising their sacrifice in maintaining law and order. He recalled that as part of the Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day held at Gajularamaram, housing plots measuring 200 square yards each were distributed to the families of long-pending cases. He also mentioned the 2008 Andhra–Odisha border incident, in which 33 policemen were martyred, stating that the government had recently allotted housing sites to their families as well.
Meanwhile, Nizamabad Rural MLA Bhoopathi Reddy suggested that Syed Asif, a young man from Sarangapur who was seriously injured while helping the police catch accused Sheikh Riyaz, be offered a home guard position. Responding positively, the DGP said the government would soon issue a notification for home guard recruitment and assured that efforts would be made to provide Mr. Asif with the job.
