Dibrugarh implements traffic diversion for Amolapatty Junction Flyover construction

Amolapatty Junction Dibrugarh

Dibrugrah:

Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi has issued a comprehensive traffic diversion order for heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) and ambulances as the city prepares for the construction of the ambitious 1.47-km Amolapatty Junction flyover.

The order, issued on Saturday, outlines detailed alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow during the construction period of the Rs 158 crore infrastructure project. The traffic diversion plan affects vehicles travelling to and from the crucial Amolapatty Junction and Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH), two of the city’s most congested areas. Under the new routing system, HMVs and ambulances approaching from the Jorhat and Dhemaji direction will be redirected from Barbaruah BCPL Round Circle (roundabout) via NH-15, passing through Jagannath Temple and Bokul Flyover before reaching AT Road.Vehicles coming from the Tinsukia side will follow a different route, being diverted towards AT Road through the Chaolkhowa area, passing Murlidhar Jalan Bus Terminus before entering Dibrugarh proper. The order also specifies exit routes, with vehicles leaving Dibrugarh for Jorhat and Dhemaji being channeled through AT Road towards Bokul Flyover and BCPL Round Circle, while those heading to Tinsukia will use AT Road through Lahowal.

“The traffic diversion plan has been carefully designed to minimise disruption while ensuring emergency vehicles maintain quick access to medical facilities. We urge everyone to cooperate and follow the alternate routes while the crucial project is underway. This may cause some initial inconvenience, but it is essential for the long-term solution to the city’s traffic congestion,” District Commissioner Bikram Kairi said. The Amolapatty Junction flyover, with an estimated budget of Rs 158 crore, is a cornerstone of a larger infrastructure push for the city. Its foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 26 of this year. On the same day, the CM laid the foundation stones for three additional flyovers: an 814-metre flyover near Doordarshan Kendra on Mancotta Road (Rs 84 crore), a 1.48 km connecting flyover at the Lahowal-Bordubi-Tinsukia Road and NH-37 junction (Rs 70 crore), and a 651-metre flyover on the Lezai-Kalakhowa road (Rs 62 crore).

Preliminary construction work has already commenced on both the Mancotta Road and Amolapatty Junction flyovers, with the remaining two projects expected to begin soon. The network of four flyovers, representing a collective investment of over Rs 374 crore, is strategically designed to decongest key entry and exit points of Dibrugarh. The massive infrastructure upgrade aligns with the state government’s vision of transforming Dibrugarh, which has been designated as Assam’s second capital, into a modern urban centre with robust connectivity. The temporary traffic diversions mark the first step in a transformative process that promises to redefine the city’s landscape.
