Dibrugarh's Charaideo district commissioner urges eco-friendly Durga Puja celebrations

Charaideo district commissioner Neha Yadav has called for eco-friendly celebrations during the upcoming Durga Puja. She made the appeal during a preparatory meeting convened at the DC’s conference hall on Saturday to chart out plans for the festival, which is just three weeks away.The DC outlined a clear green protocol for the celebrations. She urged organisers to use biodegradable materials for idols and pandals, strictly reduce single-use plastics, and employ energy-efficient LED lighting. “Our collective goal is to celebrate responsibly. I urge all committees to use biodegradable decorations, minimise plastic usage, and ensure proper waste management during and after the celebrations,” she said.Beyond environmental concerns, the meeting also focused heavily on security and logistics. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Surjeet Singh Panesar detailed robust plans for law and order and traffic management. “A comprehensive security and traffic management plan will be in place. Our focus is on ensuring a peaceful celebration where devotees can participate without any apprehensions regarding their safety,” Panesar said.

The meeting also addressed essential logistical preparations required for the festival’s successful conduct. Committee members were briefed on necessary permissions, safety protocols, and coordination mechanisms with local administration to facilitate seamless celebrations.The puja committeee representatives expressed their appreciation for the administration’s proactive approach and assured cooperation in implementing eco-friendly measures. Several committees indicated their willingness to explore sustainable alternatives for decorations and immersion practices“We fully support the DC’s vision for a green puja. It is a welcome step, and we will collaborate with the administration to implement these eco-friendly measures to the best of our ability,” a committee member said.
