Just weeks before Opening Day, the Philadelphia Phillies might have to deal with an unexpected complication to their roster. Outfielder Johan Rojas is reportedly being disciplined after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, a move that could potentially have him out of play internationally and in Major League Baseball.

The news broke on X (formerly, Twitter) that Rojas won't take part in the 2026 World Baseball Classic and could be formally punished by MLB soon.

Rojas was supposed to play for the Dominican Republic in the tournament, but after not being on the reporting roster, questions were raised. Subsequent reports suggested the problem is a drug policy violation (not a tournament-specific violation) under MLB's drug policy.

However, the timing is significant. Philadelphia is looking to make another push in the postseason with much of its veteran core intact, including Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Zack Wheeler.

The 25-year-old has played in the majors the last three seasons, establishing a reputation for himself as an elite defensive outfielder with better-than-average speed.

His range in center field has often been often-praised by coaches and teammates, especially during the late season stretches of the Phillies. Though, offensive consistency has eluded him. Rojas batted .224 last season and has so far failed to make his mark as an everyday contributor at the plate.

Coming into Spring Training, he was already vying for a spot on the team, while there was more outfield depth.The Philadelphia Phillies made changes to some parts of their lineup during the offseason, including adding some power and testing some of the younger talent for them to take on larger roles. That left Rojas fighting for positioning in what many considered to be an uphill fight even before Sunday's report. If MLB confirms a suspension through its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the penalty could make his position within the organization even more complicated.
