Heavy to extremely heavy rains induced by Montha cyclone has left the two power distribution companies — TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL — suffer heavy damage to their distribution network mostly in Nalgonda, Suryapet, Nagarkurnool, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts.
According to officials of the Southern Discom, 197 low-tension electric poles were washed away in floods in Nalgonda district, followed by 105 in Nagarkurnool and 42 in Suryapet. Another 82 11 kV poles and 23 distribution transformers were also washed away/damaged in Nalgonda district.
Further, 33/11 kV substations at Kambalapalli, Akkaram, Teldarupalli and Cherukupalli suffered damage to their 33 kV feeders and towers. The Discom authorities have restored supply by taking up restoration work on war-footing in Teldarupalli and Cherukupalli substations, while the work was in progress in case of Kambalapalli and Akkaram substations following their 33 kV towers falling to the ground.
In the Northern Discom, a total of 428 poles were damaged and eight sub-stations were inundated or marooned, 43-33 kV feeders and 116-11 kV feeders were also damaged in the extremely heavy rains. Out of them, six sub-stations, all the feeders were restored already and in case of the remaining sub-stations supply was being done through alternative lines.
