Discussion on ‘Dayammakkai’ held

A discussion on the book ‘Dayammakkai’, which explores the lives of transgender individuals, was held at Guddam Art Cafe in Kozhikode on Sunday (June 22). The event turned into a gathering of readers who cherished the book, along with members of the transgender community.

Dayammakkai delves into the sex reassignment practices that existed centuries ago, along with the rituals and traditions associated with them. It also reconstructs the stigmas and misconceptions faced by the transgender community. The discussion was led by the author of the book, Nissar Ilthumish. According to a press release, several trans activists, students, researchers, and professionals also took part in the event.
