Accusing the Opposition BJP and JD(S) of doing ‘politics over dead bodies’, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC chief D.K. Shivakumar on Monday said that the Congress would not politicise Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Shivakumar lamented that many plane passengers were charred to death and many medical students staying in the hostel were injured owing to the plane crash.

Mr. Shivakumar who visited the accident spot on Saturday along with AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge to offer condolences, said if the plane had accidentally gone 500 m ahead and crashed, thousands of lives would have been lost. A few medical students were mentally traumatised, he said.

When asked if questions were being raised about the performance of the Aviation Minister after this incident, he said, “The job of BJP and JD(S) is to do politics on the dead bodies. We will not stoop to their level. There are many technical aspects in this matter. I am not an expert on them. All these issues are being discussed. But I am not the person to politicise this issue. At this time, I will not criticise the Central Minister. This is a serious matter for the country.”
