Police in Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet district have arrested the husband of a DMK councillor and five others for the murder of a 31-year-old man in broad daylight.

The accused, 52-year-old Sudhakar, was married to a DMK councillor and reportedly had personal enmity with the victim, Avinesh. A few days ago, the two allegedly got into a fight under the influence of alcohol, during which Avinesh is said to have slashed Sudhakar.

Police said the incident bruised Sudhakar’s ego, prompting him to plot revenge. On Monday morning, Sudhakar and five accomplices began following Avinesh while he was travelling on a bus. As soon as Avinesh got down, they allegedly attacked him with knives, stabbing him to death.

All six accused have been taken into custody.

This comes days after another case involving the family of a DMK councillor. On August 1, four youths, including the grandson of DMK councillor Dhanashekaran, were arrested in Chennai over the death of 19-year-old Nithin Sai.

Police said the incident was linked to a fallout over a love triangle. Nithin died after the accused allegedly rammed a car into the bike he was riding pillion, sparking protests from his family, who accused authorities of shielding the accused.
