“DMs filled with death threats” - Stuart Skinner’s wife admits getting threats from Oilers’ fans

It is well-known how dedicated a fanbase can be, and the Edmonton Oilers fandom is one of them. In the recent episode of “Breaking the Ice” podcast, Chloe Skinner, the Oilers’ goalie’s wife, shared how the fandom took it far by sending threats to her and her kids on social media.

She further went on to add that there were times when security had to be involved for the family to safely pass a place. The revelation brings to the question of whether it is right for people to behave erratically towards the players’ families after the team loses a match.

Chloe Skinner appeared on the recent episode of “Breaking the Ice” podcast where the Oilers’ star goalie’s wife shared a couple of things. One such discussion went towards how dedicated the fanbase is towards the Oilers, and how things can turn ugly if the team loses a match.

She explained how the fans “breathe” Oilers and their reactions get intense when the team loses.“There was times where security had to be involved. I specifically have DMs filled with death threats towards the kids, towards myself, from anonymous accounts [with] people hiding behind their screens.”

Skinner further went ahead to explain how fans used to threaten her and the kids by saying they if they ever saw them in public, they would “take us (Chloe and kids) out.”

“It gets intense, and I’m making it lighthearted right now, but when I do read those, I get really scared, and I do obviously worry for the safety of my family and my young boys. It’s terrifying to think that there might be people out there who are going to hurt us over the result of a game. It is a little deranged.”Though Skinner shared the incident humorously, she admits that it was a tough period as she was scared to step out of the house.
