Iga Swiatek engaged in a heated exchange with a reporter during her post-match press conference at the US Open on Wednesday, following her quarter-final loss to Amanda Anisimova.
The conversation centred around whether she needed a mental break after her intense summer schedule.Swiatek has had a busy tennis season, securing victories at both Wimbledon and Cincinnati. At Wimbledon, she defeated Anisimova with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 score in the final. She then proceeded to compete in Cincinnati before immediately joining the mixed doubles tournament at the US Open.She quite literally played two matches from Cincinnati to New York, for the US Open, in less than 24 hours.When questioned about potential fatigue, Swiatek responded: "Well, I don't know. It's not like my matches were exhausting here."The exchange became more pointed when the reporter clarified he was referring to a mental break.
"You look like you need a mental break," Swiatek retorted to the reporter.When the reporter admitted he did need a break, Swiatek questioned: "Well then, what are you doing here?"The reporter explained he needed to continue covering the tournament until Sunday.
