THE UFC 321 main event between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane went southward after the former got poked in both eyes during the fight. The event had to be stopped, and immediately after, Aspinall was taken to the hospital.
Even a video of the injured fighter getting his eye checked was shared on social media, sparking concern among many people. But a recent update on the matter from Aspinall's doctor is quick to ease them.
Tom Aspinall's eye injury is not dangerous
Tom Aspinall sustained an eye injury recently at the UFC 321 main event against his opponent Ciryl Gane. While going for a punch, Gane accidentally poked his opponent in both eyes late in the first round, and after an initial check, although Aspinall was cleared to continue, a few minutes in he was seen telling referee Jason Herzog that he couldn't see.
Shortly after, he was taken to the hospital for a checkup. Even a video was shared on social media, where fans could see him getting a check-up. Now an update from the doctor who checked on him has been made available, where the doctor said that the injury was not "dangerous" and there would be no "long-term damage," but he also believes that stopping the match was the right choice.
Tom Aspinall was scared after the accident
This might have been a huge crowd-grabbing event, but such an incident could not have been foreseen. And as the doctor said, stopping the fight was the right decision. The event was held in Abu Dhabi, but after the accident, Tom Aspinall flew back to England for further medical testing. Making a statement on the incident, the British fighter said:“It’s way scarier than what I did to my knee. With your knee, you know it’s going to be alright, but you don’t know how it’s going to be with your eye.”
Hopefully, further tests can soon confirm that the champion is doing well, and there isn't anything to worry about. Fans would be waiting for further updates on the matter, and anticipating that the team can provide a positive one soon.
