Patna: A doctor working in a private hospital in Muzaffarpur district died by suicide by shooting himself in the head on Friday night. He was reportedly depressed over not qualifying for the medical post-graduate (PG) entrance examination.The body of the doctor, Dr Ashutosh Chandra (25), was found in his study room on the third floor of his house at Jaitpur Estate Colony under Qazi Mohammadpur police station area.According to police, the incident took place around 7.30pm, soon after Dr Ashutosh took evening snacks with his mother and grandmother. He excused himself, saying he was going upstairs to study, then he unlocked the cupboard, took out his father’s licensed double-barrel rifle, and locked himself in his study room.
Moments later, hearing a deafening gunshot the family rushed to his room. Since the door was bolted from inside, the family broke it open with the help of neighbours.Suresh Kumar, additional superintendent of police (SP) and SDPO-I of Town (Muzaffarpur), told this newspaper that they received information about the incident around 9pm. “The victim shot himself in the head with his father’s licensed rifle. When the team rushed to the spot, his body was found lying in a pool of blood.
The body was sent to the SKMCH for the postmortem and handed over to his family on Saturday,” they said.“No suicide note was found in his room. Primary investigation revealed that the youth was under depression after he failed to qualify for the medical PG (post-graduate) entrance exam, the result of which was declared recently. The police are investigating the case from all angles,” the additional SP said.He added: “After completing MBBS, Ashutosh worked as a medical practitioner at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur.
The incident took place after he returned from his duty.”The rifle, owned by his father, Avinash Singh, fuel stations owner in Dighra and Kanti, was found with a bullet in it. The police seized his cellphone for investigation. A FSL was also called to the spot.Ashutosh was the only son in the family, while his two sisters and a brother-in-law are also doctors. He completed his MBBS from Agra a month ago and was training at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur.
