A retired doctor from a leading private hospital in Kannur was allegedly defrauded of ₹4.43 crore by a cyber fraud gang that lured him with promises of high returns through share trading investments. The Kannur Cyber Crime police have registered a case based on his complaint.

According to the police, the doctor, who had taken voluntary retirement from service, was contacted by the accused through social media. Between April and June 2025, he was manipulated into transferring substantial sums of money to multiple bank accounts operated by the fraudsters.

The accused allegedly promised the doctor guaranteed profits from stock market investments, but neither the invested amount nor any returns were received. Upon realising he had been duped, the doctor approached the police.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is under way. Police have urged the public to exercise caution when approached with online investment offers, particularly from unknown individuals or entities.
