The High Court of Karnataka directed the police not to take any coercive steps against former MP Anantkumar Hegde till July 30 in connection with a criminal case for allegedly assaulting a businessman in a road rage incident in Dobbaspet police limits in Bengaluru Rural district on June 23.
However, the court made it clear that the police can proceed with the investigation against the petitioners while directing them to cooperate for the probe.
On June 26, Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar passed the interim order on a petition filed by Mr. Hegde, his driver Sridhar Biddappa Tegginavar and his gunman Mahesh Raju Shetty, all residents of Sirsi in Uttar Kannada district. They have questioned the legality of registration of the First Information Report against them.
The court said that if the police were to file a charge sheet against the petitioners, the same would be subject to the final outcome of the petition while reserving the liberty to the police for vacation or modification of this interim order.
The complainant alleged that the gunman and the driver of Mr. Hegde had assaulted him for not giving way to the BJP leader’s vehicle despite honking several times. T`he businessman alleged that Mr. Hegde had instigated the attack.
