The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the police not to take any precipitative action till July 8 against BJP MLC N. Ravikumar based on a complaint by a woman alleging that he had made derogatory remarks against Chief Secretary Shalini Rajaneesh.
Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar passed the interim order on a petition filed by Mr. Ravikumar, who has questioned the registration of a first information report based on a complaint lodged by Nagarathna, a city-based social worker.
However, the court said that police could investigate the case while making it clear that the petitioner would have to cooperate in the probe.
The complaint was lodged based on the news telecast on TV channels, alleging that Mr. Ravikumar had made derogatory remarks during a BJP demonstration near Vidhana Soudha recently.
However, Mr. Ravikumar has already issued a statement denying making any such statement against the Chief Secretary.
