Dozens of people were injured in a clash between two communities over a parking dispute in Haryana’s Nuh district. The incident happened on Tuesday.
The two communities belonged to the Mundaka and Hajipur villages in Nuh, and a two-wheeler was set ablaze amid the violence, which also led to traffic snarls in the area that lasted for hours.
People on both sides also resorted to stone pelting, glass bottle attacks, and arson.
Commenting on the clashes, Nuh Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said a force had been deployed in the area, and the fight was between two youths over a parking space.
No rioting took place, he said.
A case in connection with the matter had been lodged at the Ferozepur Jhirka Police Station.
The police said the altercation began when a man belonging to a nearby village parked his car on the road, blocking the traffic. A resident then asked him to remove his vehicle.
An argument broke out between the two, during which the car owner allegedly attacked the local with a glass bottle.
The confrontation quickly drew in people from both sides, leading to mass stone pelting.
During the chaos, a motorcycle and a small roadside shop were set on fire.
“About 10 people from my village were injured," village sarpanch Ram Singh Saini said.
He added that there were attempts to give the dispute a communal angle, but the police were swift to act to prevent further escalation.
A team from the Firozpur police reached the spot to control the situation after receiving information about the incident.
However, as tensions rose, additional police forces and DSP-rank officers were called in from nearby stations. By evening, the entire village turned into a fortress with heavy security in place.
A manhunt was launched to nab those involved in the violence.
