NEW DELHI: Dramatic visuals from Himachal Pradesh captured the terrifying fury of the monsoon as a pickup vehicle parked on Manali’s Left Bank Road was swallowed by raging waters of the Beas river after the road suddenly caved in.The shocking video shows the empty pickup slipping through a crumbling patch of the road and being instantly swept away by the swollen river.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a 'red' alert for Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi, warning of extremely heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. While Mandi and Kullu saw a brief respite with clearer skies on Wednesday, authorities remain on high alert as rivers swell and landslide-prone slopes remain unstable.Connectivity between Mandi and Kullu is badly hit, with both the main highway and alternative routes blocked at multiple stretches due to landslides. Restoration work is in progress, but officials warn that conditions could worsen if rains intensify.The IMD has also issued a 'yellow' alert for August 28 in Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi, followed by an 'orange' alert for Shimla, Mandi, Solan, and Kullu between August 30–31.With rivers in spate and mountain roads caving in, authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from vulnerable slopes and water bodies.(With agency inputs)
