Terrifying scenes unfolded in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday as students were seen jumping from a building after a massive fire broke out at a coaching centre operating on its upper floors.

Videos from the spot showed thick black smoke billowing out of the building while panicked students tried to escape. Several students reportedly jumped from windows and balconies to save themselves as locals gathered below to help.

The coaching institute is located in the Purnia area of Aliganj and was functioning from the upper floors of a commercial building. According to eyewitnesses, seven to eight students jumped from the building amid the blaze, while several others were feared trapped inside.

Residents said the fire spread rapidly, creating panic in the area. Initial reports suggest that the blaze may have been triggered by a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit, although officials are yet to confirm the exact cause.

Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and rescue operations are currently underway. Firefighters are battling the flames and attempting to evacuate those who may still be inside the building.

A fire department official said the intensity of the blaze made rescue efforts difficult. “It is being said that around 10 to 12 people may be trapped inside. The fire is massive, and our teams are working to gain access," the official said.

King George’s Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre CMS Professor Premraj Singh said two injured people had been admitted to the casualty ward, while around 15 more were expected to be brought in for treatment.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak described the incident as “extremely distressing" and said specialist doctors and six ambulances had been deployed. He added that officials had been directed to ensure proper medical treatment and all necessary assistance to the victims.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also took cognisance of the incident and directed officials to expedite rescue and relief operations. He instructed the administration to maintain constant monitoring of the situation and ensure the injured receive immediate medical care.

Rescue operations continued till the filing of this report as authorities worked to ascertain the number of people trapped inside and bring the fire under control.
