In a chilling incident reminiscent of the Bollywood film Drishyam, a woman in Ahmedabad allegedly murdered her husband, and chopped his body into pieces with the help of her boyfriend and friends before burying his body beneath the kitchen floor of their house. The sensational case came to light after the Ahmedabad Crime Branch exhumed skeletal remains from the residence following the confession of one of the accused.
For the uninitiated, the protagonist in Drishyam – played by actor Ajay Devgn – kills the stalker who troubles his wife and daughter and buries his body beneath the floor of an under-construction police station. His skeletal remains are recovered later.
According to the police, the victim, 35-year-old Sameer Ansari, a resident of Fatewadi Canal in Sarkhej, had been missing for over a year.
His wife, Ruby, is accused of orchestrating his murder with the help of her lover, Imran, and two associates, Sahil and Faizu.
Investigators revealed that Ruby and her husband frequently fought over her affair with Imran, which ultimately led to the gruesome killing.
DCP (Crime Branch) Ajit Rajian said, “Sameer Ansari, who was reported missing for 14 months, was murdered by his wife Ruby, along with her lover Imran and their friends. Imran has been arrested, and the remaining accused will be nabbed soon.”
The investigation began three months ago when the Crime Branch received information suggesting that Sameer’s disappearance was suspicious.
His mobile phone had been switched off for 14 months, and he had not contacted any friends or relatives.
Acting on leads, the police traced Imran, whose interrogation led to a shocking revelation.
“During questioning, Imran confessed that the murder was planned by Ruby. The group first tied up Sameer, stabbed him to death, dismembered his body, and buried the remains under the kitchen floor,” Rajian added.
Following the confession, police obtained legal clearance to excavate the kitchen of the couple’s former home—Ahmedwadi Raw House No. A6 near Fatewadi Canal.
In the presence of the Executive Magistrate and the accused, officers dug up the cemented floor and recovered skeletal remains, which have been sent for DNA testing to confirm the identity.
Neighbours told investigators that Ruby and Sameer’s marriage had been strained for several years due to her relationship with Imran.
“They used to fight often. A year ago, Ruby told us that her husband had gone to Dubai for work,” said a local resident. “We often saw her with Imran after that.”
Police said that after the murder, Ruby lived in the house for a few months before renting it out nine months ago.
The tenants, reportedly disturbed by recurring foul smells and unusual incidents, vacated the property recently, paving the way for further police inquiry.
Authorities believe Ruby’s motive stemmed from her ongoing affair with Imran, which Sameer opposed.
Investigators suspect the murder was premeditated, with all four accused playing distinct roles in the crime.
The police have initiated proceedings to arrest Ruby, Sahil, and Faizu, who are currently absconding.
“This is a calculated and cold-blooded act,” said an officer involved in the probe. “The accused tried to erase all traces of the crime, but persistent investigation led us to the truth.”
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch continues to investigate whether anyone else was involved in the killing or helped conceal the body.
