Two software professionals were killed and another two sustained serious injuries after the SUV they were travelling in went out of control and crashed into an electric pole in the wee hours of Saturday at Edulabad in Ghatkesar.

Based on preliminary reports, the SUV was being driven by Praveen, 28, with Dinesh, 25, in the passenger seat. In the rear were Bhargav Yadav, 23, and C. Varshit, 22. While returning from the Edulabad viewpoint, the vehicle allegedly veered off course, hitting an electric pole, then a tree, and finally another pole. The impact of the crash into the tree was so severe that one of the rear doors flew off.

Sub Inspector from the Ghatkesar police, A. Shekar said that the accident occurred at around 3 a.m. when the group, all colleagues, were returning from a party at a farmhouse.

“They had reportedly consumed alcohol before stepping out for a late-night drive in two vehicles. The group had driven to the Edulabad viewpoint and were heading back to the farmhouse when tragedy struck,” said the officer.

Bhargav and Varshit, seated in the back, suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot. Dinesh, who was in the front passenger seat, is critically injured and undergoing treatment. Praveen also sustained injuries but is reportedly stable. Police found beer bottles at the farmhouse, and medical tests later confirmed the presence of alcohol.

“A total of eight individuals had gone to the farmhouse and split into two cars for the drive. The second vehicle was ahead of the SUV at the time of the crash and was not involved in the mishap,” added the officer.

Police suspect rash and negligent driving, possibly under the influence of alcohol, as the cause of the accident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
