Drunk man beats wife to death after she refuses to cook for him

A drunk man in Jharkhand's Chakradharpur beat his wife to death for refusing to cook food.

The accused, Shankar, came home in an intoxicated state on Saturday night and insisted his wife cook for him. His wife, angry over Shankar's drunken state, refused to do so, leading to a heated argument, which soon turned violent.

Eventually, Shankar picked up a stick and started beating his wife uncontrollably, who then fell to the ground, seriously injured.

She did not receive any treatment overnight, and died by morning.

There was a stir after neighbours came to know about the incident the next morning. Following this, police arrived at the scene and arrested Shankar.

Shankar confessed to the crime and said it all happened in anger and under the influence of alcohol.

Both Shankar and his wife worked as coolies, and the couple have two children.

The woman's body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
