Drunk tractor driver attempts to run over police team in Bihta; one injured

Patna: A drunk tractor driver allegedly tried to mow down a team of traffic police officers and family members of two deceased youths near Anandpur village under the Bihta police station area of Patna on Sunday night.

The reckless driving left one person seriously injured, sparking brief chaos in the locality.According to the police, the victim, Rajkumar Rai (30), a resident of Madhopur under Maner police station area, was admitted to a private hospital in Bihta for treatment. The accused driver, Ramayan Kumar of Anandpur village, has been arrested.The incident occurred while a traffic police team, accompanied by relatives of two youths who died in a road accident about a week earlier near Anandpur, was present at the spot to investigate the earlier crash.

Suddenly, a tractor coming from Bihta towards Maner went out of control and tried to run over a traffic police team, the bereaved family members, and local residents. People jumped aside to save themselves, but Rai could not escape and was hit, suffering serious injuries.The situation caused brief unrest in the area before additional police forces reached the spot and restored order.Bihta police station officer Amit Kumar confirmed the arrest of the intoxicated driver and the seizure of the tractor. “Further legal proceedings are underway based on written complaints submitted by the injured victim and the traffic police team,” he said.
