The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) is all set to introduce a mobile app for inspection of all activities in government and aided schools, including infrastructure, mid-day meals, attendance of students and teachers, and teaching-learning functions in Karnataka.
The testing of this app has been conducted successfully and officers have already been trained to use the same. After the official launch of the app, it will be mandatory for all DSEL officials to visit every school in Karnataka every month and upload the latest information on schools on the app.
“This app will be helpful in getting information at the fingertips along with live updates about the facilities in all government schools in Karnataka,” said Dr. K.V. Trilok Chandra, Commissioner of Public Instruction.
Karnataka has 52,036 government and aided schools, with about 53.3 lakh students. DSEL officials such as Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Block Education Officer (BEO), Cluster Resource Person (CRP), Block Resource Person (BRP) and others are expected to visit all government and aided schools in the State to inspect the facilities and educational activities, and submit written reports to higher authorities.
However, it has been observed that officials often do not submit thorough reports on time. To correct this, DSEL is introducing the app to monitor infrastructure development and educational activities in schools.
“Officials now file physical reports of inspections, which cannot be collated easily, proving to be a hurdle to monitor school development. The inspection app will contain all information, including the District Information System for Education (DISE) code of each school. As soon as the official inspecting a particular school enters the DISE code, a checklist to be verified will appear. As per that checklist, the officers should check the school and update the information. Due to this, we will get a centralised depository of all the information on a live basis,” Dr. Trilok Chandra explained.
This database will be mapped with the Students Achievement Tracking System (SATS). In addition, the Lesson Based Assessment (LBA) marks of each student, which is a new system introduced from this academic year, will also be uploaded on the inspection app.
Thus, all relevant information about the school, its infrastructure, mid-day meal and other programmes, attendance and even academic records of its students will be available in one place.
