The Mudivedu police of Madanapalle sub-division in Annamayya district on Wednesday introduced a unique road safety initiative aimed at promoting responsible driving and reducing accidents.
The police arranged a life-sized diorama of a police car and a decoy traffic constable along accident-prone stretches of the Madanapalle-Anantapur highway. The design resembled a real police personnel on duty, and it prompted the motorists to slow down and adhere to traffic rules immediately.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli said that reckless driving, over speeding, and neglecting safety gears like helmets and seatbelts remain the main causes of fatalities. The SP urged motorists to follow traffic regulations strictly and avoid overtaking at blind curves. “Every motorist should take responsibility for their own safety and that of others,” he said.
The initiative was launched at Vishwam College, Kadapa Cross, and Dommannabhavi Circle, with plans to extend it to major junctions, National and State highways, school zones, and accident-prone areas.
Mr. Dheeraj Kunubilli appealed to the public to wear helmets and seat belts, avoid drunk driving, and maintain speed limits. The initiative would be monitored round the clock by the highway patrol teams, he said.
