The WWE Speed Championships have found a new home, and the news came straight from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter. During the NXT Heatwave premium live event, NXT General Manager Ava revealed that both the men’s and women’s Speed titles are now officially part of the NXT brand.

The announcement ended weeks of speculation surrounding the future of the championships, which were once tied to WWE’s short-form show.

Ava Raine reveals Men’s and Women’s WWE Speed titles officially shift to NXT

Standing in front of the Heatwave crowd, Ava Raine delivered one of the biggest updates of the night. “We have a very, very busy fall schedule. We have our Homecoming show. We have No Mercy and Halloween Havoc, but also I have a pretty big announcement,” she said. “I'm officially bringing the Men's and Women's Speed Titles to NXT.”

The decision clarifies the uncertain status of the Speed Championships. Originally created for the digital-only show WWE Speed, the titles were left without a clear future when the program stopped airing new episodes in July. Ava didn’t stop there. She brought out current Women’s Speed Champion Sol Ruca to confirm that the title would be defended at NXT No Mercy on September 27 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “Sol, you are gonna be defending your Women's Speed Title at No Mercy,” Ava announced.

To decide Ruca’s challenger, WWE is launching an inter-promotional four-woman tournament beginning September 2. The field will include one superstar from Raw or SmackDown, one from NXT, one from TNA Wrestling, and one from AAA. The winner of that tournament will earn the right to challenge Ruca at No Mercy.

Sol Ruca’s title defense sets the stage for a historic crossover

For Sol Ruca, who already holds the NXT Women’s North American Championship, the moment marks another significant test in her young career.

The addition of a multi-company tournament adds intrigue, bringing together talent from WWE’s main roster, NXT, TNA, and AAA under one storyline. The inter-promotional angle represents WWE’s broader willingness to feature outside talent in high-profile matches, especially as NXT continues to position itself as a proving ground for both emerging stars and crossover competition. Fans will see top-level representation from multiple promotions, and the winner will walk into No Mercy with momentum and bragging rights. Also Read: "Is John Cena a big wrestler?": Peacemaker 2 actor Frank Gillo admits to not knowing John Cena's wrestling legacyThe announcement also hints at WWE’s plans to keep NXT fresh and unpredictable during its packed fall schedule.
