Uttar Pradesh Police has rearned a distinct identity on the international stage after it received praise from Australian social media influencer and cricket content creator Jake Jeakings after Aligarh Police recovered and returned his mobile phone, which was stolen during the IPL final in Ahmedabad.

Jeakings’ iPhone was reportedly stolen during the IPL final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31. After tracking the device, he found that its location had shifted to Aligarh on June 2 and sought help from Aligarh Police through social media.

Acting on the information, Aligarh Police’s surveillance cell launched an investigation using technical inputs and digital tracking tools. The police team recovered the phone within a few days and completed the necessary legal formalities before handing it back to Jeakings.

After receiving his phone, Jeakings met senior police officials and thanked the team for their swift action. He particularly appreciated the work of the surveillance unit and said the police had earned his trust through their prompt and professional response.

The recovery has drawn attention on social media, with the Australian influencer’s appreciation further boosting the image of Uttar Pradesh Police internationally.

The successful recovery reflected the growing use of technology-driven policing in the state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Police has focused on strengthening cyber monitoring, surveillance networks and the use of modern technology to improve law enforcement and public service delivery.

The recovery of the stolen phone and the appreciation from a foreign national have been cited as another example of the state’s efforts to build a more responsive and technology-enabled policing system.
