EC announces bypolls to 5 assembly seats in 4 states on June 19; counting on June 23

The Election Commission has announced by-elections for five assembly constituencies across Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal, set for June 19, with vote counting on June 23.

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Sunday announced bypolls to five assembly constituencies across four states, scheduled for June 19. Counting of votes will take place on June 23. Gujarat will see two bypolls—Kadi and Visavadar. The Kadi seat fell vacant following the death of BJP MLA Karsanbhai Punjabhai Solanki, while Visavadar will go to bypoll after the resignation of Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai. In Kerala, the Nilambur seat is up for bypoll following the resignation of sitting MLA P V Anvar. Punjab’s Ludhiana seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. In West Bengal, the Kaliganj bypoll was necessitated due to the demise of TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed.
